ROAD TRAFFIC COLLISION (CRASH INVESTIGATION):

Motor Vehicle Expertise: Our experts in road traffic collisions possess the training and experience to generate reports for a wide spectrum of criminal and civil cases related to motor vehicle usage. These encompass offenses under the Road Traffic Act, with or without accidents, as well as crimes involving motor vehicles in cases against individuals. Our experts delve into driver behavior, handle civil cases linked to personal injury claims and insurance fraud. In addition to producing reports for criminal prosecutions and civil litigation, our Road Traffic Accident (RTA) Experts can contribute to disciplinary proceedings and internal investigations, including courts-martial. All of our consultants have also served as single joint experts in civil cases. Collisions often result from a sequence of events influenced by various factors, some beyond the driver's control. These factors may include road layout, conditions, visibility issues, vehicle component failures, adverse weather, and the actions of other road users or pedestrians. Our collision reconstruction experts conduct measurements, capture photographs and videos of accident scenes, assess vehicle damage, calculate distances, speeds, and times, evaluate sightlines and road layouts, review CCTV and police video footage, and investigate other potential contributing factors. We also use specialized software to model specific incidents, enabling us to assess various parameters. Other Vehicle Incidents Other Road Traffic Act offenses may require assessments of vehicle speeds, driving behavior, tachograph records, load safety for goods vehicles, and verification of journey routes and timings. Our experts prepare reports in all of these areas. Event/Incident/Journey Data Recorders (commonly known as black box recorders) and Automatic Vehicle Location Systems (AVLS) are now installed in many vehicles, particularly those used by emergency services, fleet vehicles, and younger drivers. Analyzing the data they contain is crucial when a vehicle with such equipment is involved in an incident. We examine this data and use it in incident reconstructions. If you are interested in understanding how incident data recorders are utilized in accident investigation, we can provide appropriate training. Criminal Offenses Against the Person We have provided reports in criminal cases involving murder, attempted murder, and actual bodily harm where motor vehicles were used. These cases often hinge on the allegation of intent leading to contact between a vehicle and a victim. Scrutiny of contact damage to the vehicle can determine impact speed and direction, an examination of sightlines may reveal blind spots, and an investigation of mechanical defects can support claims of loss of control. In one case related to actual bodily harm, our report demonstrated that the damage sustained by the vehicle was inconsistent with witness testimony. This was acknowledged by the prosecution expert, leading to the discontinuation of the case. In another sexual assault case, our experts were able to prove that the allegations were physically implausible given the available space. Theft and Similar Offenses We are capable of preparing reports in cases involving stolen vehicles or stolen vehicle parts. For instance, one case centered around car dismantling and a substantial number of vehicle parts. The defendant faced a conspiracy charge, alleging involvement with others in handling many purported stolen parts. Our examination confirmed some items as stolen, but distinguishing between legitimate business parts and stolen ones proved challenging. Ultimately, the defendant pleaded guilty to handling some of the stolen parts, avoiding the more severe charges.
